Many architectural and artistic details in Het Schip building, both figurative and abstract, are bearers of symbolic meaning. Many stories go around. Which are true and which are false? First time research into the sources of Michel de Klerk and contemporaries will be undertaken.
De Klerk’s housing block “Het Schip” has many ornamental elements typical of his work. The revolutionary architectural and artistic details are deeply rooted in building trade and crafts and many ornaments and artefacts are still present, but some are in poor condition. The missing ornaments and artefacts decrease the historical value of ‘Het Schip’.
The entrance doors to the apartments on the ground floor and the main staircases are still in the original condition. The woodwork of the doors convey not only the craftsmanship of the builder but also the architectural and artistic design skills of Michel de Klerk and his being rooted in the building trade. This combination of craftsmanship is continued in the design and manufacturing of the staircases, where the blacksmith made a contribution by adding special twisting steel bars.
In the façade, ceramic roof and wall tiles are used as cladding and decorative elements. Decorative roof tiles are mainly used to emphasize the horizontal segments of the façade. The wall tiles are used to soften the transition between roof and wall, and to clad uniquely shaped parts of the building.
One of the most critical parts of the restoration of 'Het Schip' is the technical condition of the masonry.

De prestigieuze Getty Foundation in Los Angeles heeft een grant van $ 180.000 toegekend aan de restauratie van Het Schip van Michel de Klerk. Daarmee kan Het Schip tot een van de belangrijkste gebouwen van de twintigste eeuw gerekend worden.
Op 20 juni 2015 vond de eerste fotosafari plaats van WENDINGEN, platform voor de Amsterdamse School.
De expertmeeting is bedoeld om de sterktes en zwaktes voor de twee inhoudelijke opties (Amsterdamse School en Volkshuisvesting) en de drie schalen (Spaarndammerbuurt, Gordel ’20-’40 en landelijk) voor een mogelijke nominatie tot werelderfgoed in kaart te brengen, zodat op basis van deze evaluatie een goed gefundeerde beslissing voor een van de opties genomen kan worden.
